Ep. 104: The American Dream Board Game Review (Milton Bradley 1979) )
Here is an unknown but great game from Milton Bradley called the American Dream. Object: Be the first to earn 1 million dollars Players move around a board with opportunities to buy/sell stocks, patent inventions and copyright items, purchase insurance, increase yearly salaries, and avoid traps. Each player starts with $50,000 and tries to collect shares of Goodyear, Levi's, Delta Airlines, Hershey's, Coca-Cola, etc. By landing on specific spaces, they can get Experience Cards that allow player to buy/sell stocks and make other business deals, purchase Prudential Insurance for use when player hits a Trap, get American Dream cards which allow player to earn royalties for things like patenting the light bulb or copyrighting Donald Duck, or get caught in a Trap where the player loses patents or stocks or even cash. The game is filled with major brand names like US Steel, KFC, NFL, RCA, and Disney. Check out more here! https://youtu.be/UcHPcCn-e_A

Here's a fun 1974 game from Parker Brothers that isn't well known..the Inventors. The theme of the game is that you are investors in various comically named inventions. The game has a very cool mechanism that does double duty for rolling the dice and applying Patent Claim clips. The Invention Track is where you pick up the various inventions, whereas the royalty track is where you collect money. You get a Patent Claim Clip attached to the invention card Eureka Cards can also be played that allow you to do special actions during your turn. Checkers has been around for centuries. In the 80's King's Court Supercheckers was released. After each side makes a move, a piece must be present on the Court (green part) at all times --otherwise the player loses. Pieces move as in Checkers except they all move as Kings (no restrictions on direction). Jumps are again as in Checkers, except that you can jump your own pieces as well. For all of you fans of bluffing games, here's and old one from the 80's called Ghosts! (https://youtu.be/P5jHLF0aY5Q) Each player has four good ghosts and four evil ghosts – but only the player who owns a ghost can see whether it's good or evil (as with the pieces in Stratego). Each turn, a player moves one of his ghosts one square orthogonally. Moving into an opponent's ghost kills that ghost. To win, you must get rid of your own evil ghosts, kill your opponent's good ghosts, or move one of your good ghosts off the board from one of your opponent's corner squares.

We've all seen sports games turned into board games. A unique one to hit the early 80's was Football Fever. Football Fever uses over 20 various shapes and color dice to call plays and conduct all aspects of a football game. Some are even shaped like footballs! The deluxe version has a heavy-duty case covered in brown plastic simulated leather, complete with metal closures and a carrying handle. with a built-in playing field and scoreboard, clock as well as yardage, ball and down markers along with pegs to note time, quarter, time outs. It also comes with cards to access offensive and defensive penalties. Check out more at https://youtu.be/N196KE81zUs

The game "Clue" has had a few spinoffs. One of the lesser known ones is "Clue: The Great Museum Caper". This is a semi-cooperative game which puts the "thief" against the rest of the players, who take the role of detectives. As the thief, you secretly plot your movements around a private art museum and attempt to steal various paintings.. As you go, the detectives take turns trying to find you with their eyes, the video cameras, or motion detectors. The thief can deactivate the cameras, and can even cut off the power to the entire museum to mask his movements. Great game of cat and mouse! Check out more at https://youtu.be/ZOQJaLuUy24

This Boring Life Ep.5: Lost Places
Hey kids! This week we have a little something different. An All New Episode of.. This Boring Life, where every episode we will explore The Secret Origin Of IseeRobots. One Topic At A Time. The topic for this episode? Lost Places or, Places that I used to go to all the time that for whatever reason are now gone. It's a real fun but also sort of sad episode. I got super bummed talking about these 5 place that were super important to me, a restaurant that my family used to go to, a water-park, a magazine store and a couple other places like that, i think my bumming shows but don't worry. I still had fun Still though, it's an interesting piece of history especially for a Sonoma County resident but even if you aren't just hearing about this stuff is sure to make you remember some places that you used to love going to. Give it a listen and make sure to tell a friend!

The Toy Tomb
If you've ever wondered what a cross between Battleship and Stratego would look like, Tank Battle is the answer. The object of this game is to destroy your opponent's six tanks before he does the same to you. In addition to your tanks, you deploy an Ammo Dump, a Fuel Dump, your HQ and five Anti-Tank guns. On a turn, you first plot secretly (using a peg board) where you think your opponent's tanks will end their move. Once you're ready, he moves. If you guessed correctly, the tanks are killed. There are slso mines you can set and more...it's fun :) See it in action: https://youtu.be/-5wM7iNrEF8

It plays a lot like Monopoly, only you are buying classic movie productions as opposed to properties and the stars of the movies as opposed to houses and hotels. You can actually buy the stars that your opponents need for their production to keep them from increasing their fees or winning awards. Pretty cool game.

A 3d board, a red jewel, hex tokens, explorers, a tiki idol, bridges, fireballs that send your opponent into oblivion, and cards that can help you or hurt your opponent make up this great game. Every so often you come across a game you've never heard of, by a company you've never heard of. And it turns out to be a great game. Extinction: Game Of Ecology happens to be one of them. Created in 1970, you will be assuming the role of a species. Object is to eliminate your opponents species. You will be able to migrate, reproduce, change genes, insert barriers like cities and rivers, prey on species, and compete against them. However, you will have to contend with fire, pollution, famines, droughts, cold waves, and man made disasters that can wipe out some of your species if you aren't protected by it. GREAT game. Dark Tower. This game has quite a story. Milton Bradley released it in 1983. The problem. A couple of people had submitted a game concept very similar to Milton Bradley. They rejected it, and then made this game. The people sued Milton Bradley for stealing their concept and eventually won. MB had to pay them $750,000, and the game was never produced again. A complete copy of Dark Tower goes for around $250 on ebay. And it's a game that is ranked high amongst games.

Like puzzle games? Parker Bros created a classic in the 70s called Black Box. One player creates a puzzle by secretly choosing the positions of 4-5 marbles on a 8x8 grid. The other player tries to guess their positions by shooting 'rays' into the grid and seeing how they bounce around. The player requiring the fewest rays to solve a puzzle wins. Check out a review of it at https://youtu.be/6OP_p_a_87c

The Toy Tomb
Fans of detective games probably remember this one from the early 80s. Scotland Yard from Milton Bradley featured a game board that was the map of London. Five detectives would work together and go searching for The Elusive Mr. X, in hopes of catching him before he escaped. You can travel by bus, taxi, Underground Railroad, and in Mr. X's case you can travel by boat as well. A challenging one for sure! See a review of it at https://youtu.be/Y-WFw9GxzgI

Classic Episode Repost Power Records Playhouse Ep.5: Davy Crockett Plus Much More!
(ISR) Hey guys! This week we're all away from The Station so our offering to you is a classic from the past. This is one of my favorite episodes of All The Times. You have Power Records Playhouse which is super fun AND A.B Silver. Believe it or not, I miss that guy sometimes... Here's what I wrote about the episode at the time.. Enjoy! Hey kids! Thanks for stopping by. We have a super fun show ahead of us this week! I really mean it this time. It's super fun. This week we take a listen to a sort of weird western tale of bear hunting and grinning, Davey Crocket! It's totally weird dude. Iceberg has some real issues with the dudes attitude. Give it a listen. It's sure to cause a chuckle. I hope so anyhow. Then it's on to At The Movies where we talk on Richard Linklater's latest, Everybody Wants Some. It's an 80's Baseball Flick with a great soundtrack. After that the show winds in with a Toys R Us Report where we talk about some Zootopia Toys, The Flea Market, The Supergirl Season Finale and Jonah Hex on Legends Of Tomorrow.

They look like books, but they are actually games. The 3m company made a series of these in the 60s and 70s. Many of these games are still played today and are classics, such as Twixt and Acquire. Mr President is still ranked as one of the best political themed games ever, even after almost 50 years. Anyone remember the game "Stop Thief?" It was a game made by Parker Brothers in the 70s that used an "Electronic Crime Scanner" to help you find various thieves that were moving around on the board. Vintage electronics for sure! See a review of it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSwJkaSFeYc

Here is an early electronic Co op game from '92 called the Omega Virus. Object is to destroy the virus in a predetermined tme before it blows up your ship. Fun part, you can actually try to steal your opponents stuff so you can get the virus and take credit for taking it out. That is, if it doesn't kill all of you first :)
